Culinary Delights & Historic Treasures on the Seine
April 12-25, 2018
Bob has always wanted to experience France on a river boat and now we get to make it happen! We will be sketching and painting the history and countryside of France while enjoying amazing French cuisine as we float on the Seine River. Think Ernest Hemingway’s "Moveable Feast" — that will be us!
No heavy plein aire equipment to lug around while we are painting villages, town squares, churches and landscapes. Bob will demonstrate everyday, sketching, color pencil and watermedia techniques he uses in his studio. He will help you to feel lighter, see clearer and paint the way you have always wanted to paint. Bob will also share his popular "Four Cs to make a Goof-Proof Painting," his Goof-Proof Color Wheel technique as well as his gallery and museum experiences.
Discover Normandy, the serenely beautiful region of France that has witnessed the clash of medieval knights, the birth of French Impressionist painting, and the D-day invasion of June 6, 1944. Via tastings, cooking lessons, demonstrations, and special meals, this special culinary tour introduces you exquisite tastes of this bountiful land, from creamy cheeses to calvados apple brandy to the hearty, tasty dishes drawn from farm, field, and orchard. We’ll honor the heroes of D-Day on a visit to the landing beaches and the Normandy American Cemetery, delve into medieval history, and meet Monet and other French Impressionists.
Your floating hotel will be the ms River Venture, one of the few river vessels that can navigate the Seine’s maritime waters to Honfleur, the picturesque fishing port that was immortalized by Monet and other Impressionist painters. Along the way, you’ll visit Monet's studio and gardens at Giverny and call at such enchanting river ports as Les Andelys, where Richard the Lionheart built a mighty fortress, and the city of Rouen, where the tallest cathedral in France soars to the heavens; take advantage of the many opportunities for active touring, from bike rides in the Normandy countryside to longer walks and mini-hikes.
Every painter will tell you that an important (and most enjoyable) part of being an artist is to paint outdoors. For centuries many of the world’s great artists have painted on-location to capture fleeting moments of exquisite color and light. These artists often translated their sketches in the studio to become the most important works of art.
Join Bob Burridge April 12-25, 2018, for a fun way to learn and experience this classic art form. The group will travel together to some of the most beautiful painting sites. In the morning, Bob will demonstrate and teach you how to translate the landscape into art through a series of simple lessons and exercises. In the afternoon, the group will have ample painting time to complete a comprehensive painting focusing on that day’s objective. At the end of each day the group will meet for a critique and discussion of the next day’s plan.
Demonstrations, practice lessons, and plenty of individual assistance are the hallmarks of Bob’s workshops. The mission of this workshop is to enjoy the outdoors with a group, guided by a master while experiencing the creative process.
